Top Ten YouTube Mashups (Part 1)

In a separate multiverse / parallel universe, your favorite bands and artists are making some of the best mashup music ever. You can almost hear it, unless you have access to there, from a shaman bearing some potent ayuhuasca or DMT, that is.

Well, you only need some good old YouTube to hear some of the best jam sessions on earth, or maybe in the whole universe.

Sometimes, the video comment already writes the story. So, this is the lead off track from the blockbuster starring Dio and Gloria G, in one of the best disco metal love stories of all time. YES. And that Cake cover is hard to beat, mind you.

Iron Maiden x Michael Jackson – “Beat it, Trooper”
The comment “I’m headbanging and moon walking at the same time” couldn’t be more appropriate. Yes, it is THE King of Pop and THE Iron Maiden. No Bruce Dickinson throaty trademark vocals on here, but Jacko does a perfect job leading the British Steel Machine with USA R&B / Soul. RIP The King

Black Sabbath x Led Zeppelin – “Whole Lotta Sabbath”
Both classic rock legends have jammed and partied in their heydays, only we haven’t heard it. In particular, Bonham was known to rock out on Bill Ward’s drum kit every now and again, sometimes destroying it in the process. Somewhere, those jam recordings are sitting in Iommi’s vaults waiting to be unleashed.

This would be the next best thing though. The legends of rock come hammering down on you on this immortal track, maaaannnnn.

NOLA Blues Metal with a little (lead solo) help from Ted Nugent. And it is both soulful and powerful. Anselmo and Withers effortlessly trade vocals over acoustic blues, and it sounds just as heavy as any other Pantera jam to boot, with general helpings of soul in the proceedings. Phil and Bill would mosdef approve. RIP Vinnie Paul and Dimebag.

Who said rock and reggae can’t jam? Bob, Billy and guitarist extraordinaire Steve Stevens grinds em up, rolls it in a tightly packed musical spliff and burns ‘em all with red hot rock-reggae. Dreads and massive hairspray products unite and deliver the ROCKsteady to the reggae like no other. KK Downing’s & Glen Tipton’s trade off dangerous dive bombs are just perfect. The trademark Ozzy “Ai!” and stoned laughing on his perennial hit isn’t even out of place in this once in a lifetime jam. Imagine if Ozzy decided to jam with our boys in EWF after getting booted out of Sabbath, with the legendary Randy Rhoads joining them. It’s not only perfect, it’s effin genius, take a listen now to know why.

Slayer x Wham – “Careless Whisper in the Abyss”
Sexy, Seductive, and Satanic – Slayer now reigns beyond thrash metal. Jamming with their good old bud George Michael, they add sexy, thrashing aggression to this classic 80’s hit. Even the original video was removed due to copyright control. But no one, NO ONE can stop Slayer and George Michael. RIP George and Jeff Hanneman. “I’m never gonna SLAY again”. Ughh.

Want Stayin’ Alive era Bee Gees toughed up and rockin’? Well say no more. They join rock legends AC/DC to jam out in the streets and take names like no one can. Those high pitched vocals are a perfect fit melding with the Oxblood SG lead guitar solos of Angus – thick on the attitude, and even thicker on the riffing. Perfect! Megadeth- Symphony of Destruction (Reggae Version)

With news of Dave Mustaine’s current fight with cancer, this one is for him, in solidarity and total support with hopes of him coming out on top and beating it.

This isn’t a mashup song, but more like a mashup of Megadeth’s sleek 90’s thrash hit x reggae grooves. And it just plows on with a sinister reggae metal fusion that warrants several bonghits from that coconut chalice bong in rapid succession… Here’s hoping Dave rediscovers his love for medical marijuana and uses it to help beat his cancer. As for this tune, it is pure solid gold. We’re with you Dave.
